Literacy Support

It is vital to understand that students in grades K-2 are learning to read; while students in grades 3-12 are reading to learn - understanding what they have read and gaining new knowledge. Driven by this philosophy, our focus for Literacy support for Grades 3-8 is vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, writing.

 

Our aforementioned grade-level focus areas encompass the five components of reading students may struggle with:

 

We employ a 1:5 instructor/student ratio for intensive Literacy support, utilizing only certified reading instructors. The components of our Literacy support focus on the following.

  1. Whole Group Instruction (30-45 minutes)

  2. Guided Practice & Close Read (30-45 minutes)

  3. Small Groups: Guided Reading, Literacy Centers & Conferring (60-90 minutes)

 

This support is based on a 2-4 hour programs in a setting beyond the instructional day - after school, Saturdays, summer, etc.

Programs

  • Princess In Training Literacy Charm School 

For Girls Only

This unique program infuses Literacy with an exciting and confidence-building experience to make every girl feel special. The participants are taken on a magical quest to earn their tiaras on the last day of the camp during a tiara crowning ceremony.

The road to earning the tiara involves mastering etiquette tips and capturing “charms” in the following five categories:

  1. Lending A Helping Hand

  2. Respecting Your Environment

  3. Uplifting Other Scholars

  4. Displaying Leadership

  5. Community Service Project

The Recommended time period for optimal results: 4-6 weeks for 4 hours per day. This equates to 80-120 hours of intensive Literacy instruction.

  • After School Literacy Support

The after-school Literacy support program runs two days per week, for a minimum of two hours per session.

 

Recommended time period for optimal results: 8-10 weeks. This equates to 32-40 hours of intense Literacy instruction.

  • Summer Literacy Camps

The summer Literacy camps are designed to run 2-6 weeks for 4 hours per day. The camps can be designed around a project, theme, school focus, or interest area.

 

Recommended time period for optimal results: 4-6 weeks for 4 hours per day. This equates to 80-120 hours of intensive Literacy instruction.

  • Saturday Literacy Warriors

The Saturday Literacy support program runs 6-8 weeks, for a minimum of 4 hours per Saturday. This program can be designed around a project, theme, school focus, or interest area.

 

Recommended time period for optimal results: 8 weeks. This equates to 32 hours of intense Literacy instruction.
